✔️ International law has the Outer Space Treaty of 1967, which bans placing weapons of mass destruction – nuclear and so on – in space. But the treaty does not ban conventional weapons. In principle, you can take a pistol aboard the ISS. The Salyut-era spacecraft carried pistols on purpose, in case cosmonauts landed in the taiga. So during an orbital pass the weapon is inside the spacecraft's zone – and this is where the grey zone of responsibility begins.

⚡ On 5 August at 09:35 Moscow time the second stage of a Falcon 9 rocket plunged into the lunar surface near the crater Einstein. Approach speed – 8,700 km/h. Impact energy – almost 12 gigajoules, the equivalent of exploding 3 tonnes of TNT. The impact left a crater up to 30 metres across and about 3 metres deep.

On 5 August 2026 something spectacular happened on the Moon. A spent upper stage of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket crashed into the surface of our satellite at 8,700 km/h (almost seven times the speed of sound). The fragment weighed almost 5 tonnes. The impact energy was equivalent to the explosion of 3 tonnes of TNT (like three FAB-3000 aerial bombs). A crater about 30 metres across formed at the impact site.

With pride and joy we share an important event: our Sputnik science and education museum has officially joined the Association of Space Museums of Russia (AMKOS)!

The secret of its effectiveness lies in eight manipulators that unfold like tentacles. They are coated with an adhesive that mimics the structure of a gecko's feet: millions of microscopic wedges provide maximum contact area with any surface, whatever its material and shape.

Life is always buzzing in our museum. “Sputnik” is not just unique exhibits, it is a place of meetings and amazing discoveries.

The main materials for the artworks are digital technological inventions that have already become space debris: instruments used in building orbital stations, computer circuit boards. All these parts were placed into the “universe” of famous works by celebrated artists.

Last night became a real “point of no return” for us – in the very best sense of the phrase. We opened the doors of the Sputnik Museum, and it was not just a celebration but an incredibly warm, heartfelt and truly cosmic event.

We are preparing for the “Space Ecology” exhibition and caught Sergey in his studio a few days before installation. It is already night outside, but the work here goes on. We talked about why technology should become art and why space demands our attention.

While visitors wait for the opening, work is already in full swing in the halls of the Sputnik Museum. The exhibition is taking shape before our eyes.

Guests will see an exhibition of works by artists Sergey Kozhukhovsky and Elizaveta Kozyr, as well as meteorite jewellery by designer Tatiana Kokoreva (TATYANA KOKOREVA).
