We have amazing, truly cosmic news!
With pride and joy we share an important event: our Sputnik science and education museum has officially joined the Association of Space Museums of Russia (AMKOS)!
For us this is an incredibly significant step. AMKOS is not just an organisation, it is a legendary fellowship founded in 1989 through the efforts of outstanding people: design engineer Nina Semyonovna Kirdoda, pilot-cosmonauts and twice Heroes of the Soviet Union Nikolai Rukavishnikov, Pavel Popovich, Vladimir Dzhanibekov and many others. Before the Association appeared, the country did not even have a single register of space museums!
Today the glorious traditions of AMKOS are carried on by its President – Hero of Russia, pilot-cosmonaut Oleg Germanovich Artemyev, assisted by the Association's honorary President Vladimir Alexandrovich Dzhanibekov. Joining such a space family is a great honour and a great responsibility.
What does this mean for our guests? We already have grand joint plans, and you can see the first fruits of our cooperation right now!
🎮 Interactive wall – space through play!
In one of the museum halls we have already installed unique equipment – an interactive wall that turns an ordinary surface into a huge touchscreen. Children can play actively (for example, throwing soft balls to protect a lunar rover from incoming meteoroids) while learning historical facts about the Soviet lunar programme. We plan to develop this project, changing the game mechanics for teenagers and adults!
🕵️♂️ Declassified history: “Cosmonauts No. 0”
Together with AMKOS we are joining in-depth research work to fill in the “blank spots” of our cosmonautics. Few people know about the feats of the ground testers – the “cosmonauts No. 0”. At the limit of human capability, these people were the first to test equipment in pressure chambers, on centrifuges and under extreme g-forces, paving the way to the stars for Yuri Gagarin and those who followed him. We plan to create permanent exhibitions, publish encyclopaedias and take part in scientific conferences to return the names of these heroes to history.
🛰 Satellites with your own hands
Ahead lies the launch of advanced educational programmes for school and university students. They will study biology, communications, materials science and engineering design on the basis of real micro- and mini-satellite technologies!
