In the artist's studio: how “Space Ecology” is born

Behind every art object in the exhibition there is not only an idea but a long process in the quiet of the studio. We visited eco-artist Sergey Kozhukhovsky to see how the future exhibits take shape.

At first glance it is chaos. Microchips, radio parts, circuit boards and metal elements are spread across the table. What is electronic waste to an ordinary person is a palette to Sergey. In the artist's hands these technological artefacts lose their utility and become part of a new language.

Every part carries the traces of its time. My task is not simply to gather them into a composition but to find the point of tension where technology stops being technology and becomes a statement – says Sergey.

There are no random elements in Kozhukhovsky's objects. They come together through rhythm, texture and inner logic. Old circuit boards get a second life, forming structures that resemble either maps of the starry sky or diagrams of orbital paths. This is artcycling – turning the waste of civilisation into art that makes you think about the price of progress.

Special attention goes to harmony. For all the technological nature of the materials, the works have an almost jeweller's precision. The hard lines of the microchips are softened by the plasticity of form, and the chaos of parts submits to the composition.
